Really affordable academic dress
Our standard gowns come in different sizes cover the height range 5' to 6' 5" and to a maximum of 50" chest/bust. Please tell us if you are particularly slim or large so that we can supply you with the correct gown. These gowns are pleated to give the appearance of a traditional gown - we have sold hundreds to, for instance, teachers requiring a gown for 2 or 3 services a year, school photos and so on. At only £39.99 including delivery is there a cheaper gown in Britain? With an economy pre-made hood (see later) the package is a staggering £62 for the whole ensemble!
Our "Woodforde" gown is more heavily fluted (pleated) around the shoulder yoke and stands up to the most critical inspection - for those individually at the centre of the public eye or who think a few extra pounds is a price worth paying for extra quality this is the gown for you!. Our gowns are in a high-quality polyester with good "swing" (Amusingly, we think, Ede and Ravenscroft describe their gowns as made from "luxury polyester") Our fabric is weighty, not flaccid and shiny like American high school (sic) "graduation gowns".
(This 'Woodforde gown', is named after the 18th century Castle Cary diarist Parson James Woodforde whose vestments took a daily hammering, not least from horse-riding goose grease and venison gravy! How did their bodies, let alone their garments, cope? His diaries make a good read!)
Our finest gown is the Camelot - here at Castle Cary we lie close to King Arthur's castle at South Cadbury - and this gown has the level of fine detail that would compare well with the exhorbitant offerings from leading manufacturers. The cross-shoulder fluting is fine, the sleeves have long tails and the fabric is finer weave - a really lovely garment and yet under £60 (plus p+p).The Woodforde and Camelot are available across the adult size range.

Our hoods are made to order to reflect the university attended and type of degree obtained. (However we often have a number of 'ready made' hoods at a cheaper price if the precise colour choice does not matter to you or you require something at very short notice- our economy pre-made hoods) Phone or email for current colour combinations in stock.

*Note Knights are not official appointed agents for any British University and we do not guarantee that our hoods and gowns will replicate exactly the colour and style of any degree-awarding institution. Therefore they are not suitable for use at graduation ceremonies. Requests for made-to-order hoods will be accepted on the understanding that a broad colour match will be attempted but no guarantee is given of an exact match nor in replicating the texture and specific details of fabric used by the officially licensed gownmakers.
